Robin Davis comes from a musically gifted family where faith and song were intertwined from Robin’s earliest years. Just a few yards from his boyhood home was the Pentecostal church that his grandfather, the Reverend Clarence Pollard, founded. It was there that Robin and his family regularly offered their talents to the Lord, whether on the piano’s worn keys or with voices lifted in praise. By the time he entered high school, Robin was singing in concert with various gospel groups. His teachers recognized his talent, selecting him for the choral music studies program at the prestigious N.C. Governor’s School. Robin continued his academic studies at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. While there, he sang in the UNC Men’s and Mixed Glee Clubs. On weekends away from his college studies, he served as both music and choir director at his home church. Robin has since recorded with the gospel quartet, Harvest Time, and more recently, Set Free, an award-winning gospel trio. Singing with the Set Free trio provided an opportunity to be an ecumenical ambassador for the gospel, especially in welcoming church communities among United Methodists, Presbyterians, Metropolitan Community Churches and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Ecumenical work has also found Robin participating in the lgbt welcoming-church discussion group sponsored by the North Carolina Council of Churches. Multi-talented, Robin’s faith has led him to song-writing and composing as well. Robin has been a featured soloist in community chorales and the Human Rights Campaign Gospel & Unity Concert 2006. He is also a sponsor of the Alliance of AIDS Services, “Carolina Works of Heart” annual fundraising effort through the arts.
